In August 1959 the 10th Air Police Squadron along with the 10th TRW relocated to Royal Air Force Station Alconbury, England. History and traditions set forth at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany by the 10th APSq continued at the "Bury". In the early 1970s the career field received a change in title. The Air Police became known as the Security Police. The 10th TRW in time became known as the 10th Air Base Wing still parenting the 10th SPSq. In October 1994 RAF Alconbury, England saw the deactivation of the 10th ABWg along with the 10th SPSq. November 1994 the 10th ABWg along with the, now known, 10th Security Forces Squadron was reactivated and assigned to the Air Force Academy in Colorado, USA.

This Page is dedicated to the 10th Air Police and 10th Security Police Squadron of Royal Air Force Station Alconbury, England.

The Below galleries contain photos of the 10th Air Police and Security Police Squadron of RAF Alconbury at work (On Duty) and play (Off Duty) through the eyes and camera lens of the former squadron members.

As a side note: Choir Practice is a reference. In the 1970s Joseph Wambaugh (former Los Angeles Police Officer turned author) authored a novel entitled "The Choir Boys". Choir Practice, within the novel, refers to, not church choir practice, but off duty beer parties. The 10th SPSq of RAF Alconbury adopted this concept and attended many a "Choir Practice" in off duty hours. It is a tradition of the 10th SPSq that continued through the 1990s. There were many a choir boys and girls of the 10th SPSq of RAF Alconbury. Only the Chaplains did not know.

Main Gate Duty

10th Air Police-1959 & 1960s

( Throughout the Decade)

(Late 1960s)

Rather hard at work or hard at play, it was always the 10th APSq way!!

10th Air & Security Police-1970s

(On Duty)

10th AP & SP Sq was the Name, "Excellence" was the Game. United States Air Force in Europe Command tried to get over this squadron, but this squadron "always" answered the "Call" without hesitation. "Seirra Hotel" became the squadron's nickname in 1976.

(Off Duty)

As hard as the 10th AP & SP Sq could work, it would play just as hard if not more as witnessed by the photos below. Beginning in the mid 1970s the 10th SPSq shined with the 72 hour "Choir Practices", antics in Barracks 664 & 665, to meeting the Pope, the 10th SPSq was always willing to provide the "Excellence", no matter what!! Leaving the squadron was considered a "Cardinal" sin and each member of the squadron paid dearly for their departure, as witnessed by a few of the photos.

10th Security Police-1980s

(On Duty)

As seen below "Excellence" continued to be the name of the game.

(Off Duty)

The 1980s continued the tradition of playing as hard as the squadron worked.

10th Security Police-1990s

(On Duty)

"Excellence", why of course!!

(Off Duty)

As seen below, some traditions of the 10th SPSq off duty, continued well into the 1990s.
